How to Prevent Seasonal Allergies!
Did you know you can PREVENT SEASONAL ALLERGIES!
Did you know that certain foods can trigger seasonal allergies?!
The food you eat can be partly responsible for allergy symptoms. Many raw fruits and vegetables have proteins very similar to those of trees, grass, and pollen’s. There are specific foods naturally high in histamine (especially ones that have been fermented) can cause your body to produce excess amounts of histamine that your body releases when fighting allergens in the environment.
Histamine is a natural compound in the body, which is released by small cells in response to an allergy or inflammatory reaction, causing contraction of fine muscles and expansion of blood vessels. Excess histamine produced by the body can cause allergy symptoms such as sneezing, wheezing and itching of the eyes, nose & throat.
If you are prone to hay fever and springtime allergies, during the time of seasonal weather change when our immune system can be more sensitive, consider avoiding foods that are naturally rich in histamine if you notice they may influence your symptoms and discomfort. This may help reduce the amount of histamine your body releases, and reduce allergy symptoms.
The ‘histamine-promoting’ foods to possibly avoid during allergy times include cheeses, processed meats, smoked fish, dried fruits, mushrooms, avocados, eggplant, tomatoes, sour cream & foods that contain vinegar. Alcoholic drinks, particularly wine and beer, also promote histamine increasing allergy sensitivity. Remember increasing WATER intake is a great way to reduce allergy-related inflammation!
If you are sensitive or allergic to…
Tree pollen’s and flowers
AVOID almonds, apples, celery, cherries, hazelnuts, pears, parsley
AVOID melons, oranges, tomatoes
AVOID carrots, celery, coriander, fennel, parsley, pepper, sunflower
AVOID bananas, cantaloupe, chamomile tea, cucumbers, honeydew, watermelon, zucchini
Eating the above foods once they have been cooked, or removing the skin before eating them raw can also assist in the reduction of cross-reaction with these foods to reduce allergy reaction, depending on level of sensitivity, making it easier for allergy sufferers to survive the spring season.
